Japanese Castle WIP 4

Ever so slowly working on the Japanese Castle.  The shear amount of detail this piece will have, is mind boggling even to me.

Sunshine is streaming through the window. Have been a bit torn about working on this and wanting to be outside.
So I decided to work on the Castle first... then go outside.

As with all my Art, it is copyrighted and NOT part of public domain.

Looks like it will be the end of Ink and Brush Creations, as long as I live in VA.....

OK Talked with the County.

They want me to add the tables, shelving, desk and so on, to my tax form, along with the room size I use and so on.  Most of my stuff is old and not worth much..... however...
This will increase what I pay them, by a lot.

They told me, they have no idea what the tax will be until April.

They told me I could talk with the Board member in charge of these taxes... but reading between the lines, doubt they would change the taxes for Artists.

If I don't make more than last year, I will be closing things down in April or when I do the Fed/State taxes, which ever is first.

As it is..I am paying for the internet I need, from DH pay check, since the net costs so much here.

Had a good run in Oregon, no stupid fees/taxes or permits. Was able to cover all costs and pay for modest Art supplies.

Here, it is just not possible.

So if anyone wants to purchase any of my Art... you have until April. sigh ~~

As many of you know, I started doing Art again 7 years ago, to help myself control the pain I had, after breaking my back.
It gave me something to focus on and help elevate stress.
Started selling when friends and family wanted to buy my Art.

I Thank each and everyone of you, for standing by me and supporting my Art.

Now I need to go make bread and beat on something....

Japanese Castle WIP 2

Started working on the Japanese Castle based on one of DH's photos he took while in Japan, a number of years ago.

The sky has been done in a base color and is not complete.
The Japanese castle will be in Pen and Ink and at a later date, will add a slight amount of watercolor pencil wash.

This is the most technical painting/drawing I have done for awhile. Last one was my cat Mia in Urban Jungle.

The Fee's, taxes and what not, in this State.....

Friday afternoon, I get a bill in the mail.
Carolina country will charge me $40.00 every 6 months for me using my Camera, computer and scanner...

At the rate they are going with the fees... they will put me out of business.
Add the $75.00 permit I just had to pay, to be able to create Art in my house....
This is beyond stupid.

Just just do not make enough to Pay an extra $155.00 a year in fees, just for being an Artist in Caroline county, VA.
Almost scared to find out if there are other fees, taxes or permits I will need to pay.

Right now, if  I close one of my Online Art galleries, will be able to afford all their fees and taxes.
However, next year, if my Sales do not pick up.... this County in VA, will effectively  put me out of business as long as I live in this State.

Now I understand why I do not see Cottage industries or Artist's in this county.
No way we can afford to stay in business.

Maybe if I sold Art in DC, I would do better, but I am not physically able to do so.

Right now, my Art sales are online, if taxes for this state are required, the online Galleries deal with it.  Though none are in this State.
I sell just enough to cover my Website, online Art Galleries, advertise in the Icelandic Horse Magazine and once in awhile, on the largest Miniature Horse forum and a few basic Art supplies.

(I badly need a new camera and other things like that, but have not made enough to afford it at this point. Nor can I afford to advertise like I need to, to make bigger sales)

I have never lived in any State, where they tax a person so heavily, nor all the extra fees and permits.  sigh ~~

Goodness, how I miss Oregon.

Not much I can do about it but wait and see.

Buying samples from my Online Art Galleries...

The above photograph was taken in the forest of my old Farm in Oregon. Decided to order a couple of samples from Fine Art America
My camera can not do this piece justice, it is just stunning.  It is printed on Acrylic.

This one is from Red Bubble and is very well done traditional print.  Again, my camera can not do this piece justice and there is a bit of glare.

So if you are looking for some very nice Art, please check out these online galleries.

Dyfra in the snow....Galdrastafir

I originally painted Dyfra as a unicorn... but not many people seemed that interested.
So I removed her horn, did some adjusting..... now you have an Icelandic running in the snow.
Think I will call this piece.... Galdrastafir

It was originally done in, ink, watercolor pencil washes and acrylic.

Shogun Castle WIP 1

Long time ago in a land far, far away,  my Husband went to Japan.  While there, took some photos of the majestic Castles.
Back when I lived in NW Oregon, I decided to give this a try. However, the move interrupted my endeavors.

Had the background... basics of a background started but nothing else. It still needs work, but will wait until I Ink in the castle.

The cats are adjusting to my DS going back to college and would not let me work in my little

studio to finish up the Bell P 59.
So I decided to drag this out and put some ink to paper.
That tiny bit of ink work above, took an hour. Detail is hard to see at this scale but in future WIP's, I will add a close up of the detail.

Bell P59 WIP 10

Very slowly moving along with this painting. Worked on the bottom stripes of the flag, with shadowing and some of the fine detail of this Fighter's underbelly.
Still have the wings to finish up and need to tone down the the lower red stripes.

I know with the size of the photos I put up, it is hard to see all the fine detail.
Sadly, as you know in previous posts, many people have taken to stealing my Art.
Once it is completed and up in my Fine Art Galleries, you will be able to see a larger copy of it.

Bell P59 WIP 9

Nice cool, rainy morning, perfect time to work on my Bell Fighter.
At this point, I am adding more shading to the under-body and added the top color to the lower stripes of the flag.
The stripes look a bit darker than the upper stripes, however, they were still wet when I took this photo.

As they dry, the color will calm down.

Hopeful Mug from Cafe Press

I bought two large mugs from Cafe Press, for long term testing.
The print quality on "Hopeful" above and Urban Jungle are beautifully done.

The roundness of the mug and where I placed my Art of Hopeful, makes
it stand out.

If you are interesting in purchasing a use-able work of Art with Hopeful on it, please
check out...

A Sci-Fi Surreal like, Bryce piece I have been working on for awhile, incorporating one of my Fractals.
Shapero's Flower, is on another planet or possibly a unique Star System, maybe some place very alien.....

And as always, my work in NOT part of public domain and is copyrighted.
The CR mark will not be on the work of Art, when purchased.

Abstract Fractal.....

This is an Fractal Abstract I did last year... could not figure a name, so I haven't put it in my shops yet.
Still do not have a name for it....  maybe one of these days.

More Theft of Art...

Looks like other people are stealing my miniature Horse Art...

Feel like I am spending more time telling people not to steal from me, than getting any Art done.

And these Jackasses... are using, me driving Maggie!!!

I still have that ugly hat... this is me, driving Maggie, which I painted from the photo
DS took of me.

Going to start black listing thieves...

Dancer ~ An Art Deco Miniature Horse

This Art Deco Miniature Horse, is the one I made a silhouette of, and was stolen a number of times.
I no longer publicly offer the silhouettes.

So I decided to finish up the Original Art Deco Palomino miniature Mare, based off one of my photos of Maggie.

As with all my Art, it is NOT public domain and is copy righted!
(seriously hate having to state this, but sadly, to many people think it is ok to steal)

Bell P59 WIP 8

Very slowly continue to work on the Bell 59.  Worked on the flag more, adding under color to the lower stripes.
Adding more color and shading to the underside of the fighter and adding the many, many rivets.

Normally I can work on my Art, more than I have been able to, lately.
But the place we bought in VA, has grass,,, lots and lots of grass.  Keep it cut so I don't have to deal with ticks around the house. Have also had a very wet spring... too much water and the grass gets out of hand.

If I could afford to advertise more, sure I would sell more Art.... maybe some day, I can dream of hiring someone to mow. That way I can spend more time with my Art.

The Theft of my Silhouettes ~ and what I have decided to do about it.

The theft of my Silhouettes is rampant, very time consuming and aggravating.

I don't make enough from them to warrant going through this every few months.

Am so very tired of people stealing my Art....even if you do it unknowingly...
If you use Art not your own, check to see if it has an owner and that you are not taking sales from and hence... food from the Artist's mouth.

Its not Kosher on any level and is the same thing as having someone rob you or someone that steals your car or pay check because they like it and do not think they should have to pay for it.
sigh ~~

Just to let the mini folks know, someone out there is using my Miniature Horse Art now, out on free clip art pages, without permission.   Along with previuos thefts of Icelandic Horse Art.
Many times these places will buy my Art, scan it and either sell it or offer it free on the Net.
This hurts all Artists.

I will still offer them, but through me directly, only.
So if you are interesting in an Icelandic or Miniature Horse silhouettes on any product I offer, contact me and I will let you how to purchase what you are looking for.

Have been working on this Sci-Fi piece for awhile... is a combo of Bryce and digital painting.

Bad news on Sadie, she needs surgery....

Bad news on Sadie... our little orange cat.  Both Stifles keep going out and with one side, she is popping her leg out of the joint socket.
She needs Surgery, in tune of $1,000+ dollars.... is either that or put her down.
Surgery needs to be done very soon, she can't keep going like she has.

So.....
Make an offer on any of my original paintings... some will come with frames, some without.
Need to sell some Art to pay for this...   So make an offer.. please pass the info around.

Lady Slippers ~ Abstract

I decided to work on an Abstract today.  Wanted to do something fun, flowing and not as complicated as my normal Abstracts are.
This one is called, "Lady Slippers".

Bell P-59 WIP 7

Had quite the storm yesterday, which gave me some time to work on my latest painting.
Added another layer of color to the green area to the nose of the fighter. Also started doing a lot more detail color to the plane's tail area, as you can see below.
Is slowly coming along.

Friday, February 22, 2013

Bell P-59 WIP6

Added the final color to the blue part of the flag. Started to add more detail to the nose of the fighter. Working on the tail and just starting to add color to the under body of the aircraft.
So this piece is coming along.

Elapsed Time ~ Sci-Fi

I have been fighting with... ah.. working on this Space ship for a long time.
Decided to go ahead and create a work of Art with it.
I call this piece, "Elapsed Time".  Let your imagination explore.

Bell P-59 WIP5

Is a beautiful sunny day out today but I decided to stay in and work on this piece.

Just a note- the colors are a bit brighter in this photo, than they are in person. Due to camera flash glare.

Added another layer of color to the stripes on the flag and the olive green areas on the plane's body.
Started working on the tail and in and around the engine intakes, with the first layer of color.
Still a lot more to go.

New Rug for my Art Studio

DH bought me a wee rug to go under my Art Studio chair for my Bday.
This will keep me from zooming off into the sunset and hurting myself. LOL
Wheels and wood floor.... are no more!

Saturday, February 9, 2013

Bell P-59 WIP 4

Started to add more depth of color to the upper part of the flag and adding the under color to part of the fighter.
Using some of the new watercolor pencils, as they have a couple of the colors closer to what I need. Taking a bit to get used too, as they do not lay down quite the same as the Derwents.

What Mediums do I use for Traditional paintings?

Excuse the messy desk, I am in the process of working on two paintings at a time.
Like to leave the mediums out, I am using on each piece. Also place them to how much each is used on a work of Art.

You can see the painting I am working on at present, the photograph I took to use as a reference, various watercolor pencils, brushes and color boards.
I do color boards, so I can quickly remember the hue and shades, both done in wet and dry.

My favorite paper for this medium is the 140lb Aquarello Fabriano Aristico Extra White Hot press paper. Have found it takes the abuse of many layers of color and ink.

I have for the most part used Derwent watercolor pencils, as I like the quality.
They are great when using Ink on the same painting.

However, I have added the Caran d'Ache watercolor pencil.
It is creamier and a bit smoother going down with some of the colors, but I have not used them enough at this point, to see wither they can handle the layers of color I use?  Or if they will handle Ink, like the Derwents can.

I have slowly been delving back into Water Based Oils. My wonderful and very talented Grammy told me about them, many years ago.
Am glad she did, because I had to give up the traditional oils because how toxic they are.

You can see I favor the MAX brand water based oils.
The canvas I am using at this time are.. Fredrix Blue label for white canvas and for the black canvas, Lyons.

My Process of painting ~~

Here is an example of what I do, to paint a work of Art.
First I use my own photographs, unless I am doing a custom piece for a client.
Then I have permission to use their photographs as a reference.

I go from reference photograph, to penciling in the subject, then adding various
mediums until the piece is completed.

Have always found it important to use my own photos. This way, I "should" have no issues in the futures.

What few Silhouettes I have offered for sale are from pieces like this one.
My Photograph, my original painting... then blacked out to make a Silhouette.
The later has become such an issue the last couple of years, I will  not add
any more Silhouettes for sale. It is not worth the hassle and stress in this day and age.

Art theft is on the rise...

STOLEN ART.....

One of my pieces being used without permission.

Email has been sent and hopefully they will do the honest thing and remove it.

Updated Note**  These folks did the right thing. I thank them for it.

Bell P-59 WIP 3

Have been working on my latest painting today. The first Jet powered military aircraft the Bell P-59.
This painting is base off my photographs, as you can see in the earlier post.

Added the under color to the blue field of the flag and the upper stripes. Starting to work on some of  the under shading too, making the folds and movement come to life.
Once this is done, I will paint in the darker final colors of the flag, before starting to do the under color to the Bell.

Monday, January 28, 2013

Pooka painting is finished~~

This is Robin Olmstead's beautiful Miniature Horse Stallion, Pooka.  Would like to Thank her for the use of her photos, so I could try to do a painting of him.
This piece was done, with water based Oils on Hot pressed paper.

Is the first time I tried this and it was a challenge. Not sure I am going to try it again but time will tell.
It turned out more in the style of Folk Art, as this piece seemed to have a mind of its own.
Am also coming to the conclusion that I need a magnifying glass of some type. As I am having a hard time, putting in the detail I normally do.

Bell P-59 Airacomet WIP2

Penciled in, more of the fighter and the American Flag.
Next, I started on some ink, on the Jet's body and started working on the back ground in watercolor pencil.
This will be my traditional type painting, on 140lb hot press paper.
