Nari WIP 6

Adding the 5th layer of color to Nari's outer fluff. Adding the first layer of color and some shadowing to her inner lions mane. The shear number of layers of fur framing her face is impressive. But then, that is a Maine Coon cat for you.
Also adding some Ink stripe details. Very slowly but surely getting this painting done.

Mare's Tail

Yesterday I looked up into the beautiful Oregon skies to see a Mare's Tail.
This is the only place I have lived, that has such unusual and dynamic cloud formations.
This one looks like my Fractal called the, "Fancy Dancer".

Nari WIP 5

Adding more layers and texture to the big Maine Coon cat ruff around her face. My favorite brush for this is a, Renaissance red Sable brush size 9.
Also applying some depth to her inner ear and doing a little more Ink work. Though the Ink work at this point, is hard to see in the Photo.

Nari Work in Progress ~ 4

Did a little more ink work and started with the shading under Nari's chin.
Added some depth to the soft fur that frames her face.

Again more ink work, more shading under her chin, muzzle, added another color to her face and start putting the first layer of color in her ear.
Making sure to erase the pencil as I go.

SNJ4 Texan

This is a digital painting, based off a photograph I took. Using Adobe PS9 to create another Aircraft, this painting took me a month to do, using the mousepad on my laptop and my finger. Not the most elegant way to get a digital painting done but worth it.
I decided to use an old style Ink look.
And continuing with my, In your Face angles, of Military Aircraft.
Navy Trainer SNJ4 Texan hat
Navy Trainer SNJ4 Texan by InkandBrush

Originating from the 1935 open-cockpit, fixed-gear NA-16, the Texan was employed as an advanced trainer, designated as the U.S. Navy’s SNJ. After the war, the planes continued in U.S. military service and flew with at least 55 nations in the role of trainer, fighter, bomber, attack, and transport.
In the next week, I will be getting Mugs and more items up in my Online stores.

Nari Work in Progress ~ 3

Am starting to fill in some of the area's of Nari's fur and added the first layer of color around her head.

Added another layer of color on the ruff of fur around Nari's head. Though I find it hard to do, am going to try to keep this area soft and not as detailed.
Also added another layer of color to her nose to add a little more depth, started in on the first layer of color on her muzzle.

Nari Work in Progress ~ 2

Here I am working on the shading around Nari's eyes.

Starting to add some ink around her nose, eyes and part of her fur. It is a little more dark in the photo that it is in person.

I have added some under-shading color to her Nose and the underside of her eyes. Also started to ink in the first layer of fur. This will take me a couple of weeks.
And remembering to erase the pencil lines as I go, so I don't muddy the colors.

Nari Work in Progress ~ 1

I decided to do a Pen and Ink with a watercolor pencil wash of my family's fixed Maine Coon cat Nari. She is very photogenic, even with my evolt 510 camera not playing nice.
Above you can see my photograph, that I am using as my reference.

You can also see I am penciling in key area's so I could start this new painting. I find it easier for me to keep the balance of what I am working on in perspective.
If I have larger dark area's, I will put an X, in those spots to help me remember where they need to be.

Am using my favorite Hot press watercolor Paper.

I decided to start with the first layer of eye color. And I will do about 10 layers to get the color depth I am looking for.

At this point, I have added a couple more layers of color to the eyes and the first layer of color to the pinkish area of her nose. I plan on finishing up her eye color, nose and mouth before I start Inking in her fur.

Unicorn Icelandic is Finished

Pretty sure I have finished this painting. Some times I am not sure but with this one, I do not want to over paint and end up ruining it.

The Scanner was having a bit of a problem with the contrast between the snow and the darker back ground.

I have put two slightly different variations on the Blog and would love to hear from you, which you like best.

The one above's background is like the painting. The one below, the Unicorn is more like the painting.
Some of the print shops would most likely do better with the one below but I am not sure until I can order some samples.

Not sure if there are Unicorn's in the Icelandic Horse culture but if there isn't, there is one now. ;O)
I will be uploading this painting to my various online shops in the next couple of weeks.

Unicorn WIP 8

Adding some more depth to the snow, specially with the action around her legs. Adding more layers of color to all parts of her body.

Close up of her head and mane. Have been adding more shadows.

Unicorn WIP 7

Sorry about the photo quality.

Unicorn Icelandic Horse. . .

Some of my paintings seem to have a mind of it's own and this is one of them. So instead of fighting it, am going to go with the flow. ;O)

Did a lot more work on the snow, just starting with the spray of snow in front of her legs as she gallops through it.
Added some while acrylic ink on her body and applying it with a paint brush.

Never be afraid to mix mediums, as you can create something wonderful with them.

Unicorn WIP 6

Have been spending a lot of time adding shadow's to the Icelandic unicorn's horn and working a lot with her Mane. I wanted to add some depth, so I mixed some acrylic ink with a thickener, to get the look, I wanted.
Can see I just started working on the snow.

Close up of her horn and mane, so you can see some of the details a little better. The Sun placement was pretty high in the sky, so I have different angled shadows.

Is a little hard to see anything new here, working on the snow more, adding a little darker highlights for the snow she is turning up with her legs and hooves.
Thinking about adding some white ink on parts of her body too.

Background is showing lighter than it is in person due to the camera flash.
